Hello! I’m Anna, a math teacher with over 25 years of experience helping students from kindergarten through grade 12. My lessons are personalized and engaging — blending clear explanations with puzzles, games, and practice to build both skills and confidence.
I hold two M.Sc. degrees, in Engineering Physics (MEPhI, Russia) and Neuropsychology (Queen’s University, Canada), and my background in math, biophysics, psychology, and neuroscience gives me a unique perspective on how children learn best. Over the years, I’ve taught in schools and universities, homeschooled my own children, and led math circles and game events in Saskatoon.
What inspires me most is watching students succeed — whether it’s overcoming challenges, growing in confidence, or going on to study math at the university level.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "Excellent math teacher. She was my tutor for nearly 8 years and helped me grow from basic algebra all the way to foundations of calculus. Very professional teaching style, with a good eye on when to increase difficulty to get the most from each lesson. She helped me not only find math easy but also develop a passion for it. I find myself now studying math for my bachelor's degree at UBC."

If your child finds math “boring,” “too hard,” or “too easy,” you’re not alone. Many families feel the same way — and it’s no surprise. Children spend hundreds of hours on math in school, yet many still struggle or lose interest.
Why? Because math isn’t just about memorizing formulas — it requires logic, creativity, problem-solving, and steady practice. Every child develops these skills differently.
In a classroom, finding a group of students at the same pace is nearly impossible. Some get bored because the material feels too easy, while others feel lost and discouraged.
That’s why one-on-one lessons are so effective. With personal attention, students move forward at their own speed, fill gaps, build confidence, and discover that math can be clear and even enjoyable.
At Discovery Math, I make math enjoyable and effective for students of all ages and backgrounds. My personalized lessons help identify and address knowledge gaps, build strong foundations, and develop confidence. I use both North American and European curricula, along with specialized materials and handouts — many of which I have developed over the years.
For younger learners, lessons combine thinking skills, number sense, and problem-solving with puzzles, games, and hands-on activities. At this age, learning is naturally play-based, which helps children build confidence and discover that math can be fun.
As students grow, the focus shifts. Some need steady support with the school curriculum — fractions, algebra basics, and geometry — while others are ready for enrichment, contests, or Olympiad-style challenges. Still, many students learn best through hands-on activities and visual models, so I continue using these methods to make abstract concepts more concrete and engaging.
The focus here is on mastering the school curriculum — algebra, trigonometry, pre-calculus, and calculus — so students feel confident in class and ready for future studies. For those who need it, I also offer SAT math preparation, which is especially useful for students planning to study abroad.
Lessons are flexible — I can follow the family’s chosen curriculum or help select one that best fits the student. I also support smooth transitions into the provincial high school curriculum, ensuring students are prepared for college or university math.
For students in Grades K–8, each lesson follows a clear rhythm that balances thinking, practice, and play:
Warm-up: We begin with math and logic puzzles — often adapted from Canadian, U.S., Australian, Russian, and European Olympiads. These puzzles are hands-on, playful, and thought-provoking. They help students switch into “math mode,” develop problem-solving skills, and discover the fun side of mathematics. Parents are often amazed to see how even children who struggle with math can shine when tackling these problems.
Main focus: After the warm-up, we turn to the core of the lesson. This may be working through the school curriculum step by step, filling gaps in understanding, or exploring enrichment and advanced topics, depending on the student’s level and goals. The pace is always individual — steady enough to ensure mastery, flexible enough to adapt to each child’s needs.
Wrap-up: We finish with a short math or logic game. Sometimes I choose the game to practice specific skills such as number sense, multiplication, fractions, or geometry. Other times, the student chooses from a wide selection of games on my shelves. This playful ending reinforces learning and leaves students with a sense of accomplishment.
For high school students (Grades 9–12), lessons are more focused on the school curriculum. We work step by step to strengthen understanding, close gaps, and prepare for tests and higher-level studies. Occasionally, enrichment or SAT preparation may be included, but the primary goal is mastery and confidence with the material taught in class.
Your support, interest, and encouragement are an essential part of your child’s success. When parents show that they value learning, students gain confidence and stay motivated. Together we can make math a positive, rewarding experience.
To keep lessons running smoothly, I ask that students arrive on time and are picked up promptly when the class ends. Since I usually teach back-to-back and don’t have a waiting room, this helps stay on schedule.
If you ever need to cancel or reschedule, please let me know at least 24 hours in advance. I try to be flexible when possible, though with a full schedule, rescheduling options may be limited. Lessons missed without 24-hour notice are still charged, since that time has been reserved for your child. In cases of illness or emergencies, please contact me as soon as possible, and we’ll work together on a fair solution.
For students in Grades K–8, lessons take place in my home office in Lakeview, Saskatoon. This is a dedicated learning space filled with games, hands-on activities, and a wide variety of materials that make math active, engaging, and enjoyable.
For high school students (Grades 9–12), families can choose between in-person or online lessons. In my experience, in-person classes often work better for most students, but sometimes online lessons are the best choice for flexibility and convenience.
I offer personalized one-on-one math lessons at flexible lengths:
30 minutes: $35
45 minutes: $52.50
60 minutes: $70
Each lesson includes individualized planning, engaging activities, and homework support when appropriate.
Payments are flexible: you may pay in advance, after each lesson, or at the end of the month — whichever is most convenient for your family.
