My approach to teaching Math 

Mathematics and Your Child

Mathematics is fundamental for education, providing a cornerstone for the development of child's logic, abstract and critical thinking, and learning skills. It is an ultimate tool in most contemporary professions.  

Just as in sports and music, in order to succeed in Math, become fluent, and come to enjoy it, one needs to get "deep enough" into it, putting work and spending time with an encouraging instructor. It is also always better to start at an early age.

Being so different from school classes or independent learning, personal lessons provide a unique setting to find and fix gaps, build up solid Math background, play mathematical games, and come to love this fascinating subject!  

For different children, the main goals may include: 

• Finding knowledge gaps and building skills; 

• Working towards better performance and higher grades at school; preparation for upper grades, University, career.

• Enrichment classes and activities for stronger and talented kids.

• Curriculum consulting, help with finding optimal textbook/workbooks for independent/extension study and work with parents' help.

• Building up attention span and work/study ethics.

The Discovery Approach

My approach is based on the following ideas.

• Engaging one-on-one lesson setting.

• Balance of new material, skill building, and fun activities.

• Geometrical and visual ideas; various approaches to see the "big picture".

• Multiple techniques, examples, viewpoints and tasks lead to deep understanding and bring the joy of discovery.

• Specialized teaching materials, books, handouts and games.

• Exciting Math games that make children love the subject, while building skills and helping memorize necessary material.

• Regular homework assignments as required.
